About the Author
Marilynn J. Wood, RN, DrPH, received her doctorate in gerontology and biostatistics from the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. A recipient of an American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award in 1984, Dr. Wood has co-authored a basic nursing research text and co-edited a text titled Advanced Design in Nursing Research. Her current research is in the area of lifestyle changes related to the treatment of obesity.

This is a great book for someone like me who has been out of school for a while. It has some really great insights that your teacher will never tell you. It has made the difference in my grade in this class.

Average text

This was a required book for a graduate level research course. Overall, this is an average text. I prefer "Research Strategies for Advanced Practice Nurses" by Susan Norwood. I'm a firm believer in using more than one text for any graduate level course, and I definitely would not use this book alone. Not a bad book, but certainly nothing to rave about.

An Excellent Resource

I used this book (probably the first edition) when I was a doctoral student in the 80's. I see that it is still available. To this day I am grateful for this book! It was instrumental in my completing my dissertation and receiving my PhD. Later on in my teaching or graduate students in nursing, I often recommended it to my students. For any doctoral student out there struggling with research design, this may be just the book you need.
