Blistering Drama

Craig Wright's "Orange Flower Water" is a play in nine scenes that premiered at the Jungle Theatre in Minneapolis in July 2002. The play sparkles with blistering dialogue about infidelity and the consequences of a romantic affair. Brad & Beth are married. Brad is a boastful jerk who gives people little reason to love him. His wife Beth is having an affair with the pharmacist David. The scene of Brad & Beth's breakup is a bruising dramatic piece, ending with Brad phoning David's wife Cathy to inform her that her husband is having an affair with his wife. David's wife Cathy is a dutiful soccer mom who plays a parting love scene that would make many a soccer mom blush. The play bounces to a sad conclusion as houses all fall down. If conflict is the essence of drama, Wright boils over with it. The play is also included in the anthology New Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2002 (New Playwrights). This is an excellent piece of high drama with great two person scenes throughout. Enjoy!

Interesting...

This is an interesting little one-act. I bought it so I could audition for it because I always read the script before I do if it is something I have never heard of. All in all, a fine little piece that shows the true ugliness of adultry. Amazon is where I always turn to make sure I can get hard-to-find plays on time and in good condition.

Thoughtful, Creatively Staged Play

Although the subject matter of Orange Flower Water is not necessarily groundbreaking, the way it is staged here allows you to take a whole new look at it. The characters also bring something new to the table allowing you to see what would make someone become one of "those people" I thoroughly enjoyed this play.
